Top 10 Guidelines for Play
The best thing to do is read the How To Play Prologue in your Storybook (you can also download the pdf). But, if you want the short and skinny on how to play, read on. Basically...you use the cards to write stories together.
10. Hostess selects date and invites friends. Email, snail mail or phone. If first time players, include the How To Play Prologue so everyone knows what's going on.
9. Hostess pairs up teams. Team #1 writes Chapter #1, etc. Have some nibbles and sips. What's a Girls' Night without them?
8. Hostess selects the Story Starter for the night and tucks the remainder of the deck back in the box. She shuffles the People, Places and Things decks and sets them out info side down.
7. Have an odd number of guests? No biggie. Make one team a 3-person team, or designate one person as the go-to-girl in case any team gets stuck with writer's block.
6. Get writing! Hostess reads Story Starter and hands off storybook to Team #1 who chooses a card from the People deck. The 'person' on that card replaces the 'X' on the Story Starter. Then, Team #1 goes to write Chapter #1.
5. Follow the card selections for each chapter noted at the top of each chapter page in the storybook.
4. If your team is supposed to choose a People card, you have the option to discard it. If you do, you must use the next card in the deck. If your team is supposed to choose both a Places & Things card, you can use one or both in your chapter.
3. At the end of chapter 6 (or the evening whichever comes first), your StoryClub can decide whether to continue the story next month, or start a new one. We call it To Be Continued or The End.
2. Don't forget to go back to Page 5 in the storybook and give your story a title!
1. The #1 guideline for StoryClub? Do what friends do best! Laugh, eat, drink, relax...and laugh some more!
